agarche jabr bhi is dil pe shadd-o-madd se huaa!

diye haiN saiNkRoN jab dard us ne dil ko mire
to ab ke farq hi kyaa aur ik 'adad se hua?

rah-e-hayaat meiN har marhale se mera guzar
'asaa-e-yaad-e-ruKh-e-yaar kee madad se huaa

rahaa hai sabr pe takiya, kih baar-e-Gham ka 'ilaaj
fiGhaaN se, shor-o-shaGhab se, na kob-o-zad se huaa!

talaash-e-suhbat-e-insaaN meiN hooN maiN sar.gardaaN
kih mutma'in to na dil fikr-e- dev-o-dad se huaa :: 1 ::

hai jaane kis liye paiham junooN ke sar ilzaam!
"fasaad jo bhi jahaaN meiN huaa, Khirad se huaa" :: 2 ::

'ajab hi kyaa hai jo idraak-e-husn-e-sh'er mujhe
kalaam-e-«Meer» -o- suKhan.saazi-e-«Asad» se huaa

'amal ke baab meiN yooN hai, kih har amal hi miraa
lagan se, mashq se, mehnat se, jahd-o-jadd se huaa! :: 3 ::

jigar ka KhooN bhi hai 'naadaaN," shareek-e-kaar, magar
maiN sarfaraaz faqat rehmat-e-ahad se huaa

dee shaiKh baa.cheraaGh hamee gasht gerd-e-shehr
k'az dev-o-dad malool am -o- insaan.am aarezoo'st!

goftand: yaaft mee na.shavad, josteh_eem maa
goft: aan kih yaaft mee na.shavad, aan.am aarezoo'st!

Yesterday (in broad daylight), a venerable old man roamed the town with a lantern, saying:
I am disappointed and dejected with devils/demons and beasts alike, and seek a "human being"

They said: It is not found anywhere, what you and us together seek
He replied: That what is not found anywhere is exactly what I am looking for!

[3] :: The pedantic/accurate pronunciation of the word is: "jidd." The restrictions of the rhyme-set (qavaafi alfaaz) in this Ghazal requires the word to be read as "jadd" instead [zaroorat-e-sh'eri].
